The 2016-2017 concert season centers on the theme, Reveries and Wonders. Each concert offers something to satisfy everyone. A brilliant presentation of some of the most well known composers, as well as some perhaps not so familiar, these concerts offer a musical season of pleasure and enlightenment.

This year's opening concert is a must see! Take a hiatus from the hustle and bustle of daily life as we celebrate the wonder of music. Works such as Griffes' The White Peacock will take you to a place of awe and enlightenment in nature as we kick off the 2016-17 concert season. In alliance with the commissioning project of New Music for America, we are proud to debut Christopher Theofandis' incredible tone poem for orchestra, Dreamtime Ancestors. Based on the Aboriginal creation myths connected to 'dreamtime', each of us are connected by our 'dreamtime ancestors' in the past, present, and future uniting us as family. Help us solve the mystery as we learn about the great composers and how the orchestra works together. This year's annual Family Discovery Concert will feature Nathaniel Stookey's setting of Lemony Snicket's, The Composer is Dead. Fifth graders from Tuscaloosa and West Alabama communities will have the opportunity to attend three morning concerts. Reduced price tickets are available for the evening concert that features a casual family atmosphere. The Tuscaloosa Symphony Guild hosts their famous Instrumental Petting Zoo starting at 5:00 p.m. in the Bama Theatre, so be sure to arrive early for a night of family fun and learning.

Join us for the season's final concert, Side-by-Side with the UA Huxford Symphony Orchestra. Each orchestra will perform one work alone then join together to create one powerful, large orchestra to bring you the epic works "The Fountains of Rome" and "Daphnis and Chloe, Suite no. 2." This is a sound and spectacle that is not to be missed. This season finale will lead you through reveries and leave you in wonder at the joy, power and beauty of orchestral music.
