OUR MISSION:

To foster and encourage the appreciation of music through live concerts and educational programs that are diverse, enriching, and of the highest quality.

1979

Founded as TACO

Tuscaloosa Area Community Orchestra formed by Dr. Michael Gattozzi and Margaret McCain; first public performance Nov. 11 at the Bama Theatre.

Early 1980s

Community concerts take off

Free (later 50¢) performances grow; Saturday evening concerts begin and season packages are introduced.

1984

Becomes the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra

TACO transitions to a professional orchestra (TSO) with auditioned, paid musicians.

1988

A new home at Moody Concert Hall

UA’s Moody Concert Hall opens; it becomes the home venue for most TSO season concerts.

2011

Adam Flatt named Music Director

After a two-year search, Adam Flatt is unanimously chosen to lead TSO.
