Season finale promises inspiration, heart, and cinematic sweep

Kevin Chance joins the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra to close the season with Grieg’s iconic piano concerto, a program infused with beauty, memory, and emotional power.

The Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra’s season finale, Hymns for Everyone, delivers a deeply personal and emotionally resonant program. Pianist Kevin Chance—whose musical journey began with hymnals in a Birmingham church—returns to the stage with Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor. The April 8 concert also features works by Sibelius and Jessie Montgomery, exploring themes of cultural identity and national struggle. Executive Director Natassia Perrine calls it “an incredibly powerful way to close off” the season, with moments that range from meditative to triumphant. Cheers ‘n’ Chat begins at 6 p.m., followed by the concert at 7 p.m. at UA’s Moody Concert Hall.
